EXP2 - Week 1 - Axonometrics

Experiment 2

Week 1 - Axonometric Sketches

The two Architects/Groups:

1. Adolf Loos:

2. Rural Studio:

Each architect was then explored and examined to derive 5 concepts which encapsulate visions and aspects of their design prowess.

These concepts were then reflected upon and utilised in order to aid in the design process, sketching six axonometric drawings out of rectangular prisms:

1. "Buildings often composed of pure forms and justified by their economic practicality and utilitarian qualities." - Adolf Loos

2. "The studio questions what should be built rather than what can be built." - Rural Studio

3. “Architecture more than any other art form, is a social art and must rest on the social and cultural base of its time and place” – Samuel Mockbee (Rural Studio)

4. "The true vocabulary of architecture lies into the materials themselves. The building should remain dumb on the outside and contrast austere facades with lavish interiors" - Adolf Loos

5. "Progress of culture is associated with the deletion of ornament from everyday objects" - Adolf Loos

6. "Everyone both rich and poor deserves good design" - Rural Studio
